Back to School: A MusingPosted by Jessica Oman
Ahhh, it’s September. And if I get over the fact that we’ve barely had a summer here on the “wet coast”, I can actually get excited for the unique energy that accompanies the start of a new school year.
Not only did I spend six years at university, but I also worked at either a college or a university for all but one year – the most recent year – of my career. This is the first September that I’m not immersed in the excitement of finding the classrooms, cracking open those brand new textbooks, and meeting new classmates (though I’m pretty happy I don’t have to pay any tuition this Fall). But for me, September is still a new beginning.
Write Ahead is working on the development of its new web site, which should launch mid-September. We’re considering new marketing ideas, and starting new projects. We’re in the running for the WE Mastermind contest (and we would love your vote, so click the link!), which could help us globally market the editing services we offer. It is exhilarating, but in an entirely different way. I’m not fearful or apprehensive at all. There is lots going on, and the time of year is perfect for it.
If “back to school” makes you nervous or uncomfortable, consider how being outside your comfort zone can actually help you get towards your business goals faster. If you’ve been putting off a social media campaign, now’s the time to launch it. If you need a business plan, now’s the time to write it. “Back to school” is back to networking, back to marketing yourself, back to working towards the business goals you’ve been delaying for too long. Make September sing this year!
