Not Blogging? Here’s Why You Should BePosted by Nicole
With more than 1.3 million blogs currently in existence according to technorati.com, there is no denying that blogging is popular. However, some business owners are reluctant to hop on the blogging bandwagon. Some feel that blogging requires a large time commitment that may or may not yield results. Others feel that writing and/or using technology isn’t their strong suit, and they are doing just fine without a blog — so why bother?
The importance of blogging to business owners can be summed up in two words: content marketing. What is content marketing? The Content Marketing Institute provides a great definition on their website:
Content marketing is a marketing technique of creating and distributing relevant and valuable content to attract, acquire, and engage a clearly defined and understood target audience – with the objective of driving profitable customer action.
As the headline to the Content Marketing Institute article states, if you’re not content marketing, you’re not marketing.
Over the next few years as more businesses invest in content marketing, those who haven’t may find themselves left behind. After all, in three years if your competition has thousands of high quality articles and blog posts on their website that is driving crazy amounts of traffic, how will you begin to catch up or compete? I guarantee it will be very, very expensive to try.
The good news about content marketing is that it’s easy to start, and you can start now.
First, create a blog and a schedule for posting, and stick to it no matter what.
Then learn some tricks for writing high quality, inspired, and informative blog posts (hint: Jessica shares her 30 minute method in Communicating with Confidence: The Creative, Ambitious Entrepreneur’s Guide to Better Business Writing).
Last but not least, make sure you’re maximizing your efforts by doing keyword research with Google’s free tool, and keep up to date on Google’s ever-changing search engine algorithm (hint #2: SEO Moz’s blog is a great resource).
