The Evolution of the OfficePosted by Antonia
In keeping with today’s theme of the global office, I thought to look into the history of the office and how it has conceptually evolved over time. Wired outlines popular office layouts from the 1900s onwards with the pros and cons of each, displayed as a catchy infographic. Highersalary has compiled a fun chronology of images beginning in the 1500s.
What kind of office do you prefer? Where do you find you work best? Personally, I’ve never been a fan of the desk/chair phenomenon. I always find my legs folded under me, or up and around like a contortionist, or stretched out across the desk as if I’m on a chaise longue. Why are chairs the norm for the working environment anyways? Who even said that chairs increase productivity? My ideal layout would be a lounge chair, feet up, bolster under the knees, laptop on lap and little stands to my right and left upon which I could prop my documents. Oh and let’s not forget, a little snack nearby and sunshine all around. Think outside the box a little, what does your dream office look like?
